Whole 30 Review - Fit & Awesome

Editors note: I met Amanda through my local moms group. She is an amazing photographer in Louisville, Amanda Klug Photography, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with her on my maternity and family photoshoots! When I found out she started her Whole 30 journey, I was so excited to get an interview with her! Amanda and her family were so excited to start a new lifestyle for 2019.

Whole 30 Review with Amanda Klug

1. What made you want to do Whole 30?

I loved the idea of a “reset.” Whole 30 focuses on eliminating foods that commonly cause issues for people and then reintroducing  to see how your body reacts. I’ve suspected that certain foods were inflammatory or reactive for me for years.

2. What were some of your goals?

I had recently started an exercise program and getting my nutrition in line seemed like a great next step. So my main goal was an overall health improvement. I hoped to also lose weight gain a better relationship with food.

3. What was your favorite part of the Whole 30 challenge?

My favorite part has to be how great I feel! It was so eye-opening to realize how much of what we eat affects how we feel on a daily basis! I did the challenge with a group from my gym. So the community and sharing was a bonus perk!

4. What was the hardest part?

The first week (and no wine). It’s essentially a detox. It was a major change in my habits with prepping, cooking, planning etc. Then the most noticeable change is what I was putting in my body. My body wasn’t happy haha. I was tired, cranky and had a headache. Luckily it’s short lived and once I made it through days 4 and 5 things were much better.

5. What were your top 3 favorite recipes?

Shrimp and sausage skillet – Paleo Newbie

Buffalo chicken baked potatoes – Wholesomelicious

Mexican breakfast casserole – The Whole Cook

6. What were your Whole 30 results?

Lost 9lbs

Lost 5 inches

Increase in energy

Decrease in bloat

Increase in mental clarity

Improved relationship with food

Decreased (pretty much eliminated) cravings

7. What tips do you have for those starting a Whole 30 journey?

Meal plan and prep. Stick with it when it gets tough. Find a community or some sort of accountability that is supportive to your journey.

8. Do you think you will maintain this lifestyle?

Yes! I’m currently on day 35. I plan to do 60 days and reassess after a glass of red wine 🙂
