Santa Monica Christmas Run 2012

First year dressing up!

Race Review: Santa Monica Christmas Run

Alright, it’s been a couple days now but here is my race review and recap from the Christmas run this past weekend. The race has been going on for the last 35 years and my husband and I have been running this race with friends since 2008. We didn’t do the Christmas Run last year though because I was training for the LA Marathon. It was nice to make an appearance again at the Christmas Run this yearEvery year at the Christmas Run we have always seen people dressed up in holiday themed running outfits and thought how neat and fun it was. This year we promised to dress up. I planned my outfit a couple days in advance and made the necessary run to Target to get Christmas socks and Santa Hats. I was happy I got them because I went to the store two days later and everything was sold out!

This run was special this year because it was me and my husband’s first time running as a married couple. And our friend just had a baby so she pushed her almost one year old daughter in a stroller the whole way. We didn’t really “race” this 5k – just had a good time getting out on a Saturday morning and dressing up and enjoying the spirit of the holidays with good friends. If you live in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, or Venice, I highlight recommend you check this race out. It’s usually the first or second weekend in December and it’s great fun. It benefits Harvest Home, a local charity. And the tees they give out are great. I think they might be some of the best race tees I’ve seen. Plus they’re festive. Can’t beat it!

After the Christmas Run we decided to continue with our holiday themed morning and go pick up our Christmas tree. We ordered ours this year from our local church and elementary school for their Christmas Tree fundraiser. Instead of waiting in long lines at the Christmas tree lot or Home Depot we pulled right up and strapped the tree onto the roof of my car with my surfboard rack. This is the third year we’ve tied our tree to the surf racks and it always cracks me up driving with a Christmas trees strapped in though our surf racks. But hey, it works!

After we got our Christmas tree home, we set it up in the stand and decorated our place for the holidays. I always love taking my Christmas Decoration boxes out of storage and seeing what we have in there. A lot of times I buy stuff at the end of the season and then pull it out and get excited. It’s a lot of fun. We are finally at the point where we have a decent amount of Christmas tree ornaments which is nice. We haven’t put them all on yet but before we were done, Baxter, our neighborhood cat, found his way into our place and decided to hang out under the Christmas tree. It was very cute. I really love this time of year!

Happy Holidays, everyone! Have you started decorating yet? What do you do to celebrate?
