Mmm…tortillas. I love using them to make tacos. I like making all kinds of tacos: chicken tacos, ground beef, turkey, grilled shrimp, and even breakfast tacos. I always use corn tortillas when I make tacos because they are usually gluten-free (sometimes corn tortillas can be made with a wheat blend so you have to double check labels). Flour tortillas are obviously not gluten-free so I haven’t had one of those in quite some time.
Mission Foods Tortillas are pretty much my go-to tortilla when we have taco night in our house. I like them because they have clear gluten-free labels on the packaging. I’ve missed having larger tortillas on hand when I want to stuff my tacos full or make something bigger like a burrito. Corn tortillas just don’t work for those items.
I received two packs of Mission’s new gluten free tortilla line to try out. Now, you may wonder why they have gluten free tortillas when corn tortillas are naturally gluten free. These tortillas are made with rice flour and are bigger in size. They’re perfect for when you want to make something that requires a bigger tortilla. I used mine to make my favorite taco recipe and I added a twist and used a surprise ingredient – turmeric! I really like to throw in turmeric as a seasoning whenever I can. It tastes like a mild ginger to me and the health benefits are outstanding.
In honor of trying out the Mission Gluten Free Tortillas, I made MONSTER Turmeric Tacos. I call them MONSTER tacos because it was literally one of the biggest tacos I’ve had in years! They are really tasty and easy to make. Since I’ve had Baby Awesome I really only have time to make meals that are simple and easy and this one is great. Check out my recipe below.
Here’s what you will need:
- 1 Pack Mission Gluten-Free Tortillas
- 1 lb ground beef (I use grass-fed but this is up to your discretion)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 Tbsp Turmeric
- 1 TSP Red Pepper flakes
- 1 Tsp Cumin
- 1 Tsp Paprika
- Salt and Pepper (at your discretion)
Heat coconut oil in a medium sized pan. Add ground beef. Wait until meat starts to brown and then add seasoning. Cook until all meat is brown and serve.
You can add whatever toppings you want to these tacos. We added guacamole, salsa, and some cheese.
The nice thing about these Mission gluten free tortillas is the size is big enough where you can only eat one taco and be completely full.
The Mission gluten-free tortillas tasted good. They were probably the closest thing I’ve had to a flour tortilla since I went gluten free. I had my non gluten free husband try them as well and he liked them. He even ate them plain out of the bag from the refrigerator!
If you are gluten free and miss the taste of flour tortillas, these Mission Gluten Free Tortillas can be a really good option for you. Enjoy!
What about you? Have you ever tried a gluten free tortilla? What did you think? Post in the comments and let me know!
