More on Butter Coffee aka Bulletproof Coffee
You might have heard of the trend of putting butter in your coffee or the latest craze on BulletProof Coffee. I originally heard of butter coffee years ago. People on the paleo diet told me butter coffee was a great way to wean yourself off of putting sweeteners and milk in your coffee. I wanted to try it, but it sounded gross to me. I wasn’t ready for it. I taught myself how to drink my coffee black with no artificial sweeteners or creamers and I never looked back.
Now I’m hearing about BulletProof Coffee everywhere and this guy Dave Asprey who started the craze. I took a look at his site – The BulletProof Exec– and was super curious. Even though butter coffee is just now gaining popularity, it has been used for centuries in Tibet. I’m not surprised.
After reading about the BulletProof Coffee, I decided to try my own version at home. I always keep GHEE in the fridge, and coffee is another staple in our house so I busted out my blender and decided to experiment. There was a recipe on How to Make BulletProof Coffee on the website and now I will share that lovely recipe I used here with you.
Here’s What You Will Need:
- 1 Cup Brewed Coffee
- 1 Tablespoon GHEE (Here’s what I use)
- 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil (Optional)
- 1 Drop Vanilla Extract (Optional)
Pour your cup of coffee and add the ingredients. Transfer into blender. Blend on high for 15-20 seconds. Pour back into cup and enjoy!
I have to say that after trying my homemade version of the BulletProof Coffee I was a big fan. It was a Sunday morning and I felt a really nice sense of mental clarity and focused energy from it. It didn’t make me jittery, but coffee never really does anyway. I think the fat from the GHEE plays a role in the mental clarity. I am not a doctor or nutritionist so I will have to look into this more. Or maybe it was just a placebo effect but every time I’ve had it since I feel differently.
Because I love the butter coffee I made so much, I decided that to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and try the official Bulletproof Coffee for myself. They claim the Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee is the lowest toxin, highest performing coffee around. Does it work? Is it a scam? I have no clue but once I get my Upgraded Coffee kit in the mail, I’m going to review it here on Fit & Awesome. Be on the lookout!
What about you? Have you ever tried butter coffee or bulletproof coffee? What did you think? Post in the comments and let me know!

Well this is a bit more than just me putting a dollop of ghee in my coffee. I didn’t mind it but the coconut oil and vanilla extract would bring a lot more to the table! And I didn’t blend, I just spoon stirred.
I have been trying it for a few weeks now and honestly don’t notice anything different than when I drink straight coffee. Maybe the organic, ranch farmed, whatever else beans are the secret.
