Probiotics are really good for your overall digestive health, but I admit they’re not something I take everyday. Usually I drink kombucha to get my dose of healthy bacteria from probiotics. I’ve also explored acidophilus, but the pills I have bought in the past had to be refrigerated and that’s not always the most convenient for me either.
I was recently introduced to Family Flora, a line of prebiotic and probiotic supplements. Their products come in powder form in single serving packets that you can add to your food or drink, and they have several different products based on your needs – Daily Balance, Colon Support, Renew, and Traveler’s Relief. I was interested in trying out this product for several reasons:
- Powder Form: I’ve never had a probiotic in powder form before. I didn’t even know it existed. Because of the live cultures in probiotics, my experience has always been with the kind of probiotic that has to be refrigerated. A powder that doesn’t have to be refrigerated is something that definitely piqued my interest and made me want to try it out.
- Prebiotic + Probiotic in One: Prebiotics are also important for your immune health but I’ve never seen them combined with a probiotic. Most times when I say prebiotic, people think I’m mispronouncing probiotic. Family Flora has both a prebiotic and probiotic in their supplement. And what do you get when you mix a prebiotic and a probiotic? A synbiotic! A fun venn diagram to represent this is below.
- Support Healthy Digestion: My body’s been through a lot this past year being pregnant with Baby Awesome and breastfeeding. My stress levels are also high as a working new mom trying to balance it all. I am prone to GI issues so being proactive with my gut health is also important to me.
I plan on using the Daily Balance probiotic powder daily for 30 days. I have already been using it for several days and have tried a couple different ways of taking it including mixing it in my morning smoothie or yogurt. I have also mixed it directly into water. It tasted okay in the water, but mixing it in yogurt or a smoothie was definitely my preference. I plan to use it consistently each morning and see how it works out. I will plan on updating you all with my progress in several weeks after my 30 days are up.
Wish me luck!
What about you? Do you take a daily probiotic or prebiotic? Is it something you’d be interested in? Why or why not? Post in the comments and let me know.
I’d definitely carry those around with me. I have a funny GI that could always use a boost, plus I find my skin clears up when I take probiotics.
