People love their dogs. How can we not? They keep us active and they bring us so much joy. Like right now as I’m typing this Kona is laying upside down like bat dog. She’s ridiculous!
A couple weekends ago my husband and I did something we’ve never done before – we took Kona to a dog festival. They had all sorts of fun events for dogs – an agility course, frisbee disc demos and clinics, and dachshund races. It was a really fun day for our family. We took a frisbee disc clinic and Kona loved it! She learned so much within the hour and had a blast playing with her pal, Cody Tucker the Jack Russell Terrier. After the dog festival we came home and ordered a frisbee disc for Kona so we could play disc with her at the dog park because she loved it so much.
Kona and I were very excited (okay, maybe I was the one who was excited) when we received an invite to attend the K9 Summerfest this Saturday June 27th on behalf of Verizon FIOS So Cal. First off, we love Verizon FIOS as a service and have had it both in our previous apartment and our new house. Second, it’s another dog festival! The event has a lot of the same activities that we did a few weekends ago, including the frisbee disc demos. How cool is that? We are always looking for fun stuff to do with our entire family on the weekend (and by entire family, I mean Kona too) so this event is perfect for us. The K9 Summerfest is from 12pm-3pm at Clover Park in Santa Monica. We are really looking forward to it. Here’s what we’re most excited about checking out:
- Disc Dogs – The Disc Dogs in Southern California will be there! I’m happy that we’ll be able to get Kona to spend some more time working on her frisbee skills. She really does seem to be a natural at it and I think it would be a fun activity for us to do together. When we played frisbee the last time, my husband wore Baby Awesome in the baby carrier and I think Kona secretly loved having her own one on one time with mommy. I wonder if the Disc Dog people will remember us. After all, Kona is kind of hard to forget.
- Zoom Room Agility Course – We didn’t get to do this last time with Kona because there was a long line. It looked like a blast and I am curious to see how Kona would do crawling through tunnels, jumping over bars, and weaving in and out of cones. She could do really well, or she could get distracted and try and chew the cones. I guess we’ll see what happens!
- Smooch Your Pooch Photo Booth- Who doesn’t love photo booths? Especially one where you can take your pet!

If you’re looking for something fun to do that will wear your dog out and make them behave like an angel the rest of the day, you might want to think about putting K9 Summerfest on your radar this weekend. It’s for a good cause and your dog will be stoked.
What about you? Have you ever been to a dog festival? Would you participate in something like this? Post in the comments and let us know!
