It’s that time of year! We are getting ready for a new school year. I’m sharing my back to school lunch essentials to make meal times easy and mess-free.
Insulated Lunch Bag
The tricky part for packing cold lunch is actually keeping items cold! One bag I love is the PackIt Freezer Bag. They have an awesome technology for non-toxic freezable gel built into the walls, just simply fold it and place in freezer over night. Grab it in the morning, pack your lunch and you’re good to go! This lunch box is awesome for back to school or trips to the beach! We use this bag and the PlanetBox lunch bag for the girls’ bento boxes. Check it out here!
Reusable Storage Bags
I discovered these Stasher Silicone Bags a few years ago and we use them for everything. I’ve been building up my “stash” over the years and it’s been a worthwhile investment for our family. Stasher bags are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. I did not like using plastic bags for lunch and snacks and wanted to reduce our plastic consumption. You can grab so many different sizes here.
Thermos
We are huge fans of Simple Modern, whether it is water bottles, thermoses, or cups. They’re great for school, home, and travel! I have two thermos on hand for my kiddos for their lunch bag to keep soups and pastas warm for the day. So many different styles and fun characters to choose from, we love having Simple Modern thermoses for lunch, beach picnics and road trips!
Bento Lunch Box
Bento boxes are so fun for the kids! And let’s be honest, they are fun for me too. I enjoy filling the little compartments each morning with their main meal (sandwich, pasta, etc.) and putting fruits, veggies, and snacks in the others. I’m a huge fan of the PlanetBox Stainless Steel Bento Box. It is an investment, but in my opinion it is worth the price! We have had our PlantetBox stainless steel lunch boxes for almost three years now and they are still in great condition. The size is great and can fit large items in the food compartments. The best part, I can throw them in the dishwasher every night for an easy clean up!
I’ve also used the Bentgo Kids Lunch Box, another great affordable and BPA-Free option. The Bentgo lunch boxes are a little smaller than the PlanetBox, but have the same concept. Bentgo has the cutest designs and it makes it fun for everyone at lunch time! Check out the color selections here.
Water bottle
To be honest, I don’t remember ever bringing a water bottle to school as a kid. But it’s a thing now and we pretty much bring water bottles for our kids wherever we go. We love the Kids HydroFlask for school days and after school activities. They have a silicone base for protection and security and they are dishwasher safe. We used to have the 12oz size (and still have them for shorter outings) but found they were drinking them too quickly. We upgraded to the the 20oz Kids HydroFlask water bottle and it is perfect for a long day at school to keep water cold. So many colors to choose from here!
I love sharing all of my favorite products we use as a family. I hope this gives you some guidance on essentials for back to school! Cheers to a great school year!
