The Importance of Sleep

By Lindsay Leave a Comment

Nightwise

Sleep and health go hand-in-hand. There are studies that show that getting a good quality of sleep can help improve a lot of issues in our body. Sleep deprivation is an epidemic with 70 million Americans struggling to get enough sleep each night.

I am someone who does not function well on little sleep, so getting the proper amount of rest each night is important to me. Sometimes this means getting to bed earlier or using a supplement to help me sleep better, especially when I am under periods of high stress in my life. NightWise, LLC is a science-based consumer health company that is headquartered in Atlanta, and focuses on helping people understand the power and importance of restorative sleep. Its flagship product, NightWise™ is the first and only sleep aid designed to work with the bodies’ natural sleep rhythms. Many people actually use too much melatonin when trying to sleep which can make you feel groggy in the morning. NightWise™uses a micro-dose of melatonin which helps you achieve restorative sleep and wake up feeling energized and well rested. The co-founder is a microbiologist who put a lot of thought into designing the product.

We spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping, and for good reason. Our body heals and repairs while we sleep. Here are some of the many benefits and why sleep is so important.

1. Sharper Brain

Sleep not only allows us to rest our body but it also recharges our mind. Without enough sleep, our brain can’t function properly. It’s hard to retain new information and to focus. It’s important to sleep in order for your brain to be refreshed and ready.

2. Better Productivity and Concentration

When the brain and body gets the sleep it deserves, it leads to better concentration and boosts productivity.

3. Emotional Response

The brain processes your emotions when you sleep. It gives time for your mind to recognize your thoughts and think of how to handle them the right way.

4. Weight Control

Lack of sleep can interfere with the hormones in your brain that control appetite. When those hormones are out of balance, it affects a person’s ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

5. Lower Risk of Heart Disease

People who don’t get enough sleep are at a greater risk of heart disease and stroke compared to those who get enough of sleep. A well rested body allows blood pressure to regulate itself. In fact, NightWise works with a well-known cardiologist who also agrees sleep is very important for the heart and recommends NightWise and other supplements with quality ingredients to use as a “tool” in your toolbox.

6. Steadier Blood Glucose Levels

Sleep play an important role in maintaining a healthy blood sugar levels. Sleep deprivation impacts insulin and cortisol levels and increases glucose in our body.

7. Stronger Immune System

Not getting enough of sleep every night impairs the immune function. The immune system fights off the harmful bacteria and viruses in your body but when you lack sleep, the cells may not attack the infection as quickly as it should be.

Overall

Sleep is vital for our overall health and wellbeing. Getting adequate sleep gives our body time to rest and be ready for what’s ahead of us. One cannot fully achieve optimal health by just eating a balanced diet and regular exercise, sleep is also part of the equation. Take good care of your sleep and if you need a supplement to help you sleep, then I recommend looking into one with a low dose of melatonin such as NightWise™.  Get 15% off your purchase using code Fit15 at checkout.

Some other helpful tips to help you sleep better:

1. Make sure your bedroom is cool

2. Do not look at phones, computers or electronics up to one hour before bed

3. The best sleep happens in a dark room.  Use black out shades or eye shades to help promote a darker atmosphere

4. Stop taking prescription drugs every night.  Those can cause more harm than good.

5. Plan to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep
