On-Demand Doctor House Visits with Heal

get heal app
Last year I went to a healthcare startup competition here in LA and the winner was a company called Heal. They are a mobile app that allows you to book at-home doctor visits on demand everyday from 8am-8pm. They won first place in the competition and it was easy to see why. A service like this is so smart and much needed. As a busy mom it’s hard to load up the family in the car for a doctor’s visit and waiting for a doctor is so much nicer in the comfort of your own home versus a waiting room.

Recently I had the opportunity to try Heal for myself. Admittedly, I had the app and loved the concept but never had a use for it. I learned that in addition to sick visits, Heal can also do well visits. Sick visits can be booked on the same day and well visits can be booked a day out. You can schedule a well visit for an annual physical or a flu shot. I needed to get a flu shot and had not gotten one for the season yet. It was raining pretty hard for several days here and I didn’t feel like going out to get my flu shot over the weekend. I signed up to get one through Heal. This was a scheduled well visit and I booked my appointment for the following morning.

Heal has both pediatricians and family doctors so they can treat both kids and adults. Since I was receiving a flu shot I was seen by a Medical Assistant, Roderick. The appointment window was between 8 and 10am and he arrived at my house a little before 9am. He gave me an information form to fill out and then he got set up at our kitchen table. He quickly gave me my flu shot and boom – done! I was in the middle of cooking breakfast and took a 15 minute break to get my flu shot taken care of. I’m not a huge fan of shots and Roderick was very nice and understanding. Toddler Awesome was hanging out in the living room in her PJs the whole time. It was so nice to get this done in the convenience of my own home. They also gave me a Heal bandaid to put over where the shot was. A nice touch.

Getting my flu shot. I’m a big wuss and had to close my eyes.

Heal is currently expanding throughout California. So, would I use Heal again? Absolutely! I rated my visit 5 stars out of 5. The best part? My flu shot was free! You add your health insurance information to the app and they will tell you how much the service will cost based on your insurance, co-pay, and deductible, and my flu shot was free. Happy Dance! Heal is downloaded on my phone and I will definitely plan on using their on-demand doctor service next time I am in need of something and don’t have it in me to make it to my regular doctor.

What about you? Have you ever heard of Heal? Would you use a service like this? Post in the comments and let me know.

OMG I love this. Someone had recommended Plush to me but that’s just a hotline with doctors who give advice and can write scrips — this is the next step and so convenient.
