Whole30 Day 8 Recap: Nut Bags and Meatloaf!

Day 8

I am now into week two of my Whole30 challenge. I woke up feeling refreshed. I was glad because I had a big day at work and needed the extra energy. I heated up some tea and leftover egg muffins for Marion and I and topped them with avocado and some blueberries on the side. Perfect whole food, clean, paleo, and Whole30 approved breakfast.

For lunch I had a Beef Curry from Brian’s Bowls. It was my first time eating beef from them since I started eating red meat. It was GOOD!

I was doing some reading earlier today and i watched a video from Lorna Jane on how to make your own almond milk. I found this interesting because I know Almond Milk is not Whole30 compliant if you buy it in a carton because it’s heavily processed. After watching the Lorna Jane video I was convinced it was easy enough to make my own almond milk – I just had to have the right tools which in my case was a fine mesh strainer. After talking to a friend of mine who makes her own almond milk all the time, she told me I needed something that was more fine so I could make sure the almond particles didn’t go through. She told me to do a search for “nut bags” on Amazon and see what I find. I have to admit that hearing this made me giggle like a school girl. Then when I saw the shape of the items on the results page, I laughed even more:

Is it just me or does this look like a pair of tighty whiteys?!?!

Yes I’m immature. I know. But it’s funny.

I love Amazon because I can find whatever I’m looking for easily and save the time of going to the store. Case in point: almond milk. I was inspired today to make my own almond milk but I needed to get cheesecloth or one of these “nut bags.” (I’m still laughing, FYI) I knew if I waited until I went to a store to find one it would take me days if not weeks before I got around to it. And if I wanted to get an additional item like say, a mason jar to store the almond milk, it would take another couple days. Well, I had the idea and within minutes I found a good “nut bag” to buy and several minutes later I decided I would buy several mason jars to store the nut milk in and give to friends. If I had to go driving around town to find those items, that would have never happened. Thank you, Amazon. And thank you even more, Amazon Prime!

I waited too long between lunch and dinner today and came home ravenous. Not good. We took the paleo meatloaf we made last night and heated it up. I was planning to do yoga today but I got home from work too late to make the class. Guess this means today was a rest day!

Tomorrow I have a lunch to go to and I’m already mapping out what I’m going to eat so I stay on track. Planning is key!

Have you ever made your own almond milk? Does the idea of searching for a “nut bag” online make you laugh? Or am I just immature? Post in the comments and give me a piece of your mind!

    Yes, I am laughing!
Making milk is probably one kitchen project I won’t invest time in…but I’m curious to see your process/how it goes.

I love reading this blog! I’m on Day 9 of a Whole30 so its definitely like having a partner.

Making one’s own milk seems like quite a process- I was proud of myself my mayo turned out great. Let us know how it goes.

And if it makes you feel better, I uncontrollably giggled at just reading the word “nut bag,” and I’m way too scared to google search that term.
