Whole30 Day 28 Recap: Super Bowl Sundae

After a good night’s sleep, we woke up early on day 28 of whole30 and watched the Liverpool vs Manchester United soccer game. We are big dorks and watched it streaming away from home since we didn’t have FOX Soccer. It was also another big day for football- American Football- because it was Super Bowl Sunday.

I like football (my team is the Chargers) but when it comes to the Super Bowl I always end up doing something other than watching it. Last year I was on a girl’s surf trip in Panama during Super Bowl Sunday. The year before we were in Lake Tahoe on a snowboarding trip. It’s nice to take advantage of a time when most Americans are inside watching TV and get outside and do an activity with no crowds. I like it.

I had a sweet potato and a juice made with almonds and dates for breakfast. It was thick like a smoothie so I wouldn’t call it a juice. But it was good and filling. I got it at the juicery in Manhattan Beach.

We got on the hill early and met up with friends. There were literally no lift lines so we ended up doing laps on the gondola from the top of Mammoth (11,953 feet) to the bottom. Talk about a leg burner!

The gondola laps were really fun because there were no lines and we were with a bunch of friends. It was also super fun for me because its the first time my husband has done gondola laps and enjoyed them. He just learned to snowboard 5 seasons ago and he is getting really comfortable dropping in at the top of the mountain which can be pretty steep. It’s an awesome feeling.

We did gondola laps for almost 4 hours! The snow was really good and it was quick with little to no lines. We ended our day a little before 2pm and got in the car for our drive home. We were beat from boarding. I’m pretty sure we got about 25,000 to 30,000 vertical feet in which was pretty awesome and fulfilling.

I was pretty tired on the drive home and starving. We stopped at a BBQ restaurant in Bishop-the same one as last time. I had tri trip and BYOS. What is BYOS? It’s “bring your own salad.” Tee hee. I brought some kale salad from the night before! Yes, it took prep and planning but that’s exactly what success boils down to. Always be prepared!

After lunch we drove home along the 395 and listened to the Super Bowl on AM radio. My husband and I are used to listening to football on AM radio on our drives home from snowboarding
so it wasn’t new. We listened to the Super Bowl and stared out into this awesome sky:

Listening to the Super Bowl on the radio was great but I have to admit that listening to the radio when the power went out was a bit spooky.

We got home from Mammoth around 8pm and heated up some bowls from Brian’s Bowls for dinner. It was a perfect end to another great weekend. I was proud of sticking to another whole30 weekend when being surrounded by temptation. But the tiger blood feeling I had all weekend outweighed any non-whole30 food or drink I could have had. Four weeks on whole foods. Done!

What about you? Do you watch the Super Bowl? Or do you head outdoors when the big game I on? Post in the comments and let me know!
