Whole30 Day 23 Recap: Strength Training & Sports Massage
Thankfully Day 22 of whole30 is over because that day was rough. I woke up on day 23 feeling better than the day before. I had a 7am class at the gym which was my 2nd time back in strength training since August. I had a hard boiled egg as my pre-workout snack (like it says to do in ITWF)z My coach took it easy on me again focusing 100% on form because that is how I got injured in the first place. I did some easy box step ups, push press, squats, and trx rows. I finished it off with some intervals on the Airdyne. the Airdyne is a stationary bike that is similar to a normal bike but I think its a bit harder and it blows air. My coach told me next week is going to be rough so I better be ready. Hmmm, what does that mean? I am enjoying the light exercise while I work on form but secretly I can’t wait to get back into my regular, sweaty workouts.
After my class was over I stretched out my quads, glutes, and IT band. I also had a sports massage scheduled that evening so I was looking forward to that.
After my workout I headed home and cooked a solid post-workout whole30 approved breakfast for me and my husband before heading to work. I made two fried eggs, sausage, and a greens mix of spinach and rainbow chard. It was good. Perfect post-workout meal.
I had really good energy from my workout and the solid breakfast. My energy levels were good all morning and I noticed a huge difference from the previous day which was good. I came home for lunch and had paleo meatloaf with cauliflower rice for lunch.
After work I headed over to get my sports massage. It was the first time I had gotten a massage since going on our honeymoon this past October. Long overdue. I know massage is typically thought of as a luxury, but if you are training for an event or working out a lot a sports massage is an important part of training and recovery. It was almost like a half physical therapy / massage because I got stretched out too. Felt good.
After the massage I was feeling very relaxed and headed home to watch basketball with my husband and eat dinner. We finished off the paleo meatloaf and I began prep for my new recipe- jalapeño sweet potato chowder. I put several sweet potatoes in the oven to prep them for the soup. After all prep is pretty much the most important thing when it comes to whole30. In my mind that is. Prep, prep, prep!
What about you? Do you get sports massages? Is prep work an important part of your whole30 / healthy eating plan? Post in the comments and let me know!
Glad you’re feeling better. I had a sports massage for the first time just about a week before running my first marathon. I had no idea how sore I was going to be. Oh my gosh!!! But, it all worked out.
