Day 20: Another Baby Shower and Rainy Day Saturday
I woke up early with my husband on Saturday morning of day 20 of my whole30 to watch English Premiere League soccer. It was raining and we had coffee and listened to the rain while we watched soccer. Yes, we are big soccer dorks. I love when it rains in SoCal because we never get much rain around here.
Today was the first day where I looked in the mirror and truly felt like I noticed a difference in my body since starting my whole30. I just feel a bit slimmer. No bloat. I stared at myself for awhile and analyzed. Yes, I even took a picture. I was in my bathroom so it’s not a flattering picture at ALL but I promise you I will post pics at the end of my whole30. I am just shy at the moment 🙂
I had two eggs for breakfast and a cup of coffee. I love relaxing on a Saturday morning and enjoying a cup of coffee. Then I wrapped up the gifts for my cousin’s baby shower and got ready to go down to Huntington Beach for my cousin’s shower.
Huntington Beach is a really fun town and I love going there-especially in the summertime for the US Open of Surfing. Before I got to the shower I stopped on Main Street and peeked my head in a couple surf shops for a new wetsuit that’s a) warmer and b) smaller. I couldn’t believe there were no 4/3 winter wetsuits in my size. I was sad. I have a Patagonia wetsuit but its currently being repaired and I’m asking them if it could be altered for me. Patagonia makes a really nice wetsuit so it’s worth it to alter it versus buying a new one. If its possible. Which I’m not sure it is which is why I am searching for a new suit.
After looking for my suit I went to my cousin’s baby shower. It was good to see everyone and celebrate! Of course there were plenty of tempting goodies there including cake, cookies, chocolate, and a gigantic subway sandwich. But they also had rotisserie chicken. I had that and some veggies for lunch and the chicken was delicious.
We had a fun time playing baby games and watching my cousin open gifts. I had a lot of fun going shopping for her baby. So many cute clothes!
After the shower I drove home to Manhattan Beach and decided to stop at a local surf shop in MB to see if they had a wetsuit in my size. And they did! It was a Roxy chest zip which is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I ended up getting it! I’ve been surfing for half my life and never have had to wear a 4/3 wetsuit until this year. It’s cold! (East Coast people are probably laughing at me right now)
After my day out I was exhausted and came home and heated up some leftover coconut chicken curry. I brought some leftover food from the baby shower to my husband. He’s been doing great being supportive of me on my whole30 but I think he was excited to have some chicken, rice, and beans. Haha! I also made some delicious kale chips to snack on at dinner and they were so good!
After dinner we hung out and rested a bit before going to a local bar meet up with friends and watch an Irish band play. It was a bit weird being in a bar where everyone is drinking and taking shots and I was just drinking water. At one point someone handed me a shot and I just put it in the center of the table and said no thanks. It’s funny how you are always the target for that type of stuff when people see you drinking water in a bar. All I kept thinking about was how I was going to wake up the next morning feeling AWESOME and everyone else was going to be hungover!
After the bar we headed to bed. I am proud of how I’ve been easily able to navigate social situations. Although I do look forward to having a glass of wine soon!
What about you? Do you have a hard time being at parties with tons of treats or bars where people are drinking? Post in the comments and let me know!
Sometimes it’s tough to not be a drinker and be in a drinking setting, but I feel like the older we get, the less it really “matters”–to each his/her own.
Totally. It’s usually never a problem but I don’t get why people want to buy the non drinker shots all the time!
