Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide: Dogtown Coffee

I immediately liked Dogtown Coffee when I heard the name because I am a fan of Dogtown & Z Boys (from the Santa Monica / Venice old days) and surf culture in general. I came here to meet a friend for breakfast (and to work on our blogs!) and I was so happy to see they were friendly to gluten-free customers and had a nice gluten-free menu. But I should have expected it – the coffee shop is located at the intersection of Main Street and Bay Street in Santa Monica. It’s a trendy area in town and being gluten-free is kind of all the rage right now.

Aside from plenty of gluten-free pastries like brownies, they have egg sliders that can be served on a gluten-free bun. They are tiny and perfectly sized and to be honest, it was one of the first times I had tried gluten-free bread and it was pretty damn good. I don’t think all gluten-free breads are this good. They have a good one! I had the egg sliders on gluten-free bread with egg whites, salsa, spinach, and mushroom. The salsa was really fresh, too, and had a bit of a spicy kick from fresh jalapeno!

Their coffee is great, too. I had two cups of coffee while I was there – one dark roast and one sea salt caramel iced coffee. They are known for their sea salted caramel iced coffee because they let the coffee soak in the sea salt caramel overnight. Knowing they were popular for this, I had to try it. It was a bit too sweet for my taste buds (gosh, never thought I’d be saying that) but I can see why people think it’s delicious.

This place is still pretty new and opened in summer of 2012 so I haven’t been able to find a website for them yet. Here’s a link to check them out on Yelp:
