Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide: Cafe Rio
Cafe Rio is a really great Mexican restaurant in Manhattan Beach. Although, I enjoyed their menu much more before I went gluten-free because most of their menu items have gluten. Their tortillas are NOT gluten-free. They are made with a corn / wheat blend. Don’t eat them. Also, the majority of their meats are NOT gluten-free. Even the shredded chicken has gluten. This was a surprise to me.
If you are going to eat gluten-free at Cafe Rio, there are several guten-free recommended items you can choose from. The grilled chicken is gluten-free. You can get a salad with no tortilla, tortilla chips, and no dressing. You can ask for several limes to use for dressing and it works great.
Although you can find gluten-free options here and have a great meal, if you are someone with a severe gluten reaction from cross-contamination I would not recommend eating here. The tortillas are everywhere around the kitchen and probably not worth the risk.
