My Review of Thistle Meal Delivery

By Lindsay Leave a Comment

I’m sharing my review of Thistle Meal Delivery, the pros and cons and how you can have your meals delivered right to your doorstep.

When it comes to meal planning for myself and my family, healthy eating is a non-negotiable. I love providing whole, organic foods for my girls. My husband eats predominantly plant-based during the week and I have been gluten-free for ten years now. You can read more about my journey (and how I started this site) in this blog post. I heard about Thistle through an advertisement in the mail and thought the food looked healthy, fresh, and delicious. It also hit both me and my husband’s dietary needs so I wanted to give it a try.

Thistle is a meal delivery service that provides whole, mostly organic, gluten and dairy free options. They offer a variety of meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with snacks, wellness shots and juices.

What I loved about Thistle

Thistle gives you an opportunity to easily eat healthy and wholesome foods. The meals are ready-to-eat and most often only involve opening them up to eat as a salad or heat in a skilled. The Thistle meals are made with fresh ingredients – a lot of times it is locally sourced, and their meals are packed with superfoods!

Gluten and Dairy Free

All the Thistle meals are gluten-free, which was a huge reason why we signed up. They have salads, polenta bowls and even treats to satisfy your sweet tooth!

As for my husband, he is predominantly plant-based and does not eat meat during the week. There are plenty of vegan meals for him to choose from. Thistle provides a new menu weekly, so we are able to log in and choose which meals worked for both of our dietary needs. We love that most of the meals can be served hot or cold!

Convenience

Convenience is the number one reason why our family uses delivery meal services. As a busy family, we love having our meals delivered right to our doorstep. The Thistle meals arrive for us twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays and provides us with great consistency during the week and a nice, healthy alternative to quickly ordering something on DoorDash or Postmates. Each Thistle meal is a healthy portion. Honestly, I don’t usually even finish a whole meal in one sitting so they last much longer for us as well. My favorite meal is the Banh Mi Salad Bowl!

Cons

We truly have loved everything about Thistle during the past eight months we’ve used this service, but there were a few key things that we considered while trying their subscription.

Expense

Compared to a few of the other meal subscriptions I have tried, Thistle is a little more on the expensive side. Starting at $42 a week or $11.50 per meal, you have ready-to-eat menu options that are healthy and convenient. Thistle provides a new menu for each week along with giving you the option to choose Vegan. While it’s more expensive than cooking, there is a price to pay for the convenience of eating healthy, fresh foods that’s worth it for us.

Protein

The vegan protein options are slim and some are a bit funky (sunflower seed “cheese”) and we have not been a fan of those. I have often selected meals with chicken in them, but the vegan options tend to not have great protein options.

Packaging

Thistle speaks very highly of their sustainability, but I noticed there was a large amount of plastic being used for each meal. Their plastic is 100% recyclable and I did find out that they are in the process of testing compostable containers. The amount of plastic used is something that always crossed my mind when eating their meals so I hope they figure out a solution for this sooner rather than later.

Overall Review of Thistle Meal Delivery

We really enjoy having Thistle in our home weekly. They are great meals for my husband and I to enjoy as a work from home lunch. As a busy family, this meal subscription has been a tremendous help to augment our grocery shopping and cooking during the week. Get $100 off delicious, ready to eat food delivered straight to your door. Save time and be healthier!
