Farm Fresh To You CSA Box
Update: 1/18/13: I initially wrote about the Farm Fresh To You CSA Box when they did a deal with Groupon. Today I received this awesome coupon code in the mail letting friends & family know about this awesome deal! I’ve posted the coupon below. If you get a box make sure to tell them Lindsay from Fit & Awesome sent you!
Happy Weekend!
I found this sweet Groupon for Farm Fresh to You. I don’t qualify for it because I just signed up for their service literally three weeks ago, but I’m posting it so you can all take advantage of its awesomeness. You may remember me posting about this box of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) produce a bit before Christmas. A couple weeks ago we received our first CSA box from Farm Fresh to You. We learned about Farm Fresh to You at the Santa Monica Christmas Run last month and signed up for a special promo to receive our first box. We signed up for the regular sized box (there are just 2 of us) of mixed fruits and veggies. The nice thing about this box is it literally comes straight from the farm and right to your door. With grocery stores and supermarkets, there is lag time between the farm and when the produce hits shelves. So by the time it gets to your grocery cart, it may already be days old and not as fresh. I never really thought about this until I learned about this program. Here’s a quote about CSA straight from the Farm Fresh To You website:
“As people are becoming increasingly interested about where their food comes from and how it was grown, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is becoming a popular alternative for getting high quality food from a trusted local farm, Farm Fresh To You. By joining our CSA, families are connecting directly to our farm, Capay Organic, and are receiving regular deliveries of nutrient rich, mouth watering, organic produce delivered directly to their home or office.”
We received our first box of goodies the week before Christmas and it was really great. Here’s what came inside the box from Farm Fresh to You:
- 1 Butternut Squash, White
- 3 Arkansas Black Apple
- 3 D’Anjou Pear
- 2 Navel Oranges
- 12 Satsuma Mandarin
- 1 lb Leeks King of Richard
- 1 Bulb, Fennel
- 2 Treviso Radicchio
- 1 Bunched Carrot
- 1 Ass’t Chard
- 1 lb Baby Mixed Lettuce
The quality of the produce was pretty good and most of it lasted around 2 weeks. I just cooked the butternut squash and the leeks (I will post recipes soon) this past Friday night so they lasted a little over two weeks. They were definitely at the end of the road but I think that’s pretty good. We loved this purchase so much that we bought a gift certificate good for one produce box for each of our parents for Christmas. And they loved it! Whole foods for the win.
I am starting the Whole 30 challenge tomorrow, January 7th, so this service is going to be clutch for me over the next 30 days. We receive our 2nd box on Tuesday evening so I will update this post and let you know what we get! I find it really fun and exciting to get new vegetables and find recipes on the internet for new ways to cook them. It’s nice and clean, healthy goodness. And you are getting organic produce at a really good price and supporting local farms and agriculture. Awesome deal!
Do you know about CSA boxes? Do you get one delivered to you? What do you like / dislike about them?
$15 for $31.50 Worth of Delivered Organic Produce from Farm Fresh To You
I have been reluctant to sign up for a CSA because I like the experience of going to the farmer’s market and picking out what I need/want. However, I do like the idea of being ‘forced’ to try new things!
Yes, it is fun to get new veggies in the box and then research ways to cook them. I wish I had the time to go to Farmer’s Markets more regularly. There is a great farmer’s Market in Manhattan Beach I’ve been wanting to check out.
Representative for Farm Fresh to You canvassed our condominium complex, despite the no solicitor signs posted at the entrances. I should have told him to go away, as I do with most solicitors. But, he seemed really nice and promised that if I wasn’t satisfied with my first delivery I would not need to pay. I wasn’t satisfied, it was a handful of fruit and wilted lettuce leaves (for $23 introductory price – over $30 thereafter!). I did not continue the subscription service, and as instructed by the representative, did not pay for the first shipment.
Now Farm Fresh to You is threatening to send a collection agency after me to collect!
I will NEVER DO business with this company again, and strongly discourage anyone from listening to their representatives, who are either poorly trained, misinformed, or worse!
Now if I can just get them off my back.
Farm Fresh To You Review – Also known as Fresh Farm
FarmFreshToYou is a SCAM! Do Not Buy From Them! Half of the Money they are charging you is charges they NEVER tell you about! READ ON….
I started using Farm Fresh To You fruit/vegetable delivery last December. I really like the idea of having local organic farms produce delivery to my home. I thought Farm fresh delivery to my door ROCKS!!!
Fresh Farm To You are scammers to the highest degree!!!!
When signing up, I asked their Rep if there were any delivery charges or other monthly charges for their home delivery – local produce delivery and he assured me that the price I would be charged was farm fresh direct to you and only for the organic fruits and vegetables I would be ordering!!!
For the first 4 or 5 months I felt their pricing was fair, but about 6 months ago, I started noticing the quality of produce go down and their prices go up. At first I ignored it but I started to notice more and more problems not only with their produce but with their pricing (I mean there is something wrong when everything they are selling becomes more expensive than Whole Foods Market prices!!!) According to their Rep, the main farm, Capay Farms, produces excellent produce and they pride themselves in growing fresh for you foods!
Recently I noticed huge discrepancies between the amount of the produce I was ordering and my invoices. So I decided to calculate the prices of the produce and make sure it added up to what I was being charged!
I was SHOCKED when I found out they were charging me $13.95 extra over the price of the produce I was ordering!!!
What that means is that they have deceived and scammed me for the the past 12 months and they have not been honest and moral about their business practices!!
For that past 12 months I have been using their services, I have never been told in any way that I am being charged $13.95 for what they are calling their “Delivery Services” charges!!
So I called them today and spoke to a supervisor named Jamie. I point blank asked her: “Do you guys charge Delivery Fees for your services?”, and she said: “NO we never charge for Delivery!!”
SO I let her know that I had just calculated that I had been charged $13.95 every time I had ordered from them, and this is what she said to that: “OH that is a charge and it is absorbed as part of your produce you are getting and it is part of our packaging and delivery!!” So I said I thought you said you don’t charge for delivery??
Jamie said, “We don’t, that charge is part of of the produce package you are getting and that is what Farm Fresh To You owners have decided as part of the produce package you get.”
I am so disappointed and angry, these people are liars, cheaters, and scam artists!!!! I really feel sorry for the farmers who work with them because sooner or later people will find out they are being cheated by these scam artists and stop using their delivery services!!
