Source4Women September Dare

What Do You Keep Close To Your Heart?

**Disclosure: This is a post written by me on behalf of United HealthCare. All thoughts and opinions, as always, are my own.

September is here and for many people across the U.S. that means school is back in session, the leaves are changing color, and the air is getting cooler. But not here in Southern California! We are currently going through a heatwave that is record breaking for this time of year. All I want is for cooler weather so we can start using the slow cooker and cooking yummy fall meals, but right now it’s too hot to even turn on the oven. Le sigh.

This month also means a new dare from Source4Women. This is a website created by United Healthcare that provides healthy living information on things like nutrition exercise, health screenings and more for women. Every month they do a photo contest to encourage you to live a healthy and active lifestyle. This month’s photo challenge was to upload a photo of something you keep close to your heart. Hmm, I keep a lot of things close to my heart. In the most literal sense I keep a sports bra close to my heart. Ha! I also keep my family and friends close to my heart. There are also activities and causes I keep close to my heart. How do I pick? I decided to upload this picture for this month’s challenge of something I keep close to my heart:

Kona The Golden Retriever is close to my heart.

Mom, can we go for a walk yet?

Yes, this is a picture of Kona. I keep her close to my heart because she’s our dog and I love her, but also because she keeps me and my husband active. Right now it is hard for me to be super active with the heat and being 6 months pregnant. But that doesn’t really matter to Kona. She still needs her daily exercise and I still need to be there to make sure she gets it. Whether it’s a long walk through our neighborhood or the beach, or taking her to the dog park, she is sure to keep me active…and on my toes!

Here are some of my favorites from the Gallery:

  • A Night Sky
  • Nature and Outdoors
  • Boy playing soccer
  • Doggies Sleeping Together

My family, friends, and new people I connect with are all things close to my heart. I believe that we are meant to cross paths with people and that we should inspire and do at least one thing to help people everyday.
