How Do You Spend Time Outdoors?
**Disclosure: This is a post written by me on behalf of United HealthCare. All thoughts and opinions, as always, are my own.
May is probably one of my favorite months of the year. My birthday is in May so that’s probably one of the big reasons, but when I was a kid growing up May always signified that the school year was ending and summer was coming. I love all the seasons for different seasons, but summer is by far my favorite.
If you’re unfamiliar with Source 4Women, it’s a community created by United Healthcare that provides healthy living information on things like nutrition exercise, health screenings and more for women. Every month they do a photo contest to encourage you to live a healthy and active lifestyle. This month’s Source4Women photo challenge is all about getting outdoors. I love being outdoors. I spend a lot of time on the computer for work and I love being able to get outside, unplug, and be in nature. It’s so important to reenergize and fresh air is so good for the soul!
The photo I decided to upload for this month’s challenge is this:
This is a picture of me and Baby Awesome at the dog park. Kona is very active and walks just don’t do it for her, so we try and take her to the dog park everyday. Have you ever been to a dog park? It’s ridiculously fun. I love watching all the dogs play together and run around and chase tennis balls. When we go, my husband goes in the dog park with Kona and I usually walk around the perimeter of the park with Baby Awesome in the baby carrier. It’s great because I am able to get some more steps in for the day, Baby Awesome is able to get outdoors, my husband spends time with Kona, and Kona gets her exercise. Going to the dog park is probably just as much fun for us as it is for Kona. We love it. Plus, baby wearing is like walking with weights so it can help you build strength, too!
Source4Women has a lot of fun outdoor activity photos in their gallery this month. Head on over there and check it out!
The Giveaway – Win A $100 Gift Card to REI
And now it’s time for the fun part of this month’s challenge – The Giveaway!
Every month there is a prize on the We Dare You site valued at $400. In addition to this, you have the opportunity to win an additional prize by entering through Fit & Awesome. This month we’ve decided to give away a $100 Gift Card to REI! Why? Because REI is the best place to shop for outdoor gear and is pretty much one of my favorite stores ever. Not only do they have a great return policy, but being in that store just makes me want to go on a camping or hiking trip. My husband and I even registered there when we got married. They also have a great outdoor school and offer all sorts of different weekend or day trips. I’ve gone kayaking and cycling with their outdoor school and it’s so much fun. Happy to offer such a cool prize to my Fit & Awesome readers!
Here’s How to Enter:
1) Go to http://www.wedareyoutoshare.com/share
2) Click on “Enter”
3) This will launch a popup that allows you to upload your photo. Make sure to use the promo code “FitandAwesome” when uploading.
**Note: you must enter this promo code to be eligible to win the $100 Gift Card to REI so don’t forget!**
Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
What about you? What is your favorite outdoor activity? How do you try and get outside daily? Post in the comments and let us know!
My office is in a really great neighborhood so I’ve been taking lunchtime and afternoon walks! We get a really lovely breeze and I’m enjoying getting to know the neighborhood.
I’m going camping this weekend so I’ll work on getting a halfway decent photo to share.
Thanks for the great gift card give away! I LOVE walking, biking, running, and camping in the summer. I run a few days a week and try to do a long bike ride on the weekends. Camping (and all the fun stuff that goes with it like hiking and swimming and canoeing) is the high light of the summer for me, though!
We love to go hiking and swimming to keep active!
We have been getting outside with the family and walking the trails, going on park adventures, doing scavenger hunts, and biking.
One of our favorite outdoor activities (which I posted in the picture) is the Annual Mud Run! Also love swimming and camping.
I am not a dog person but I am a baby person and I love how you call yours baby awesome. So cute! Love the fit selfie idea. Have a great weekend
I love this challenge! It’s so important to get outside, not just to be active but to get in some sunlight, which makes us happy!
What a fun challenge. Love your picture. I no longer have a pooch of my own (: but I love to go for runs through a nearby offleash area!
The more time I can spend outside, the better. I love running outside as much as I can.
I love running/walking outside! I hope to go hiking soon too!
Great challenge! My boys love to be outside so we are always outside running around!
Running will always be my number one outdoor activity but that’s followed closely by biking and quality time in m kayak.
Being from Colorado and now living in Idaho, my family definitely takes advantage of the amazing outdoors we’re surrounded with! Although, I can’t believe I’ve never been to REI…
I really like biking outdoors. Aside from some of the drivers who don’t like to share the road…it’s pretty fun and a great workout!
Daily trail running!
I love to be outside, and I”m usually out there running!
My favorite outdoor activity is running and when I am not running I like to get outside in the sunshine to walk or ride my bike!
I love to be outside and try to go for a walk at some point every day.
Walking. I have been taking baby steps and making my walks a little bit longer each morning. 🙂
We have gone swimming and cycling most recently
You and the little are super cute 🙂 Glad you have a dog park to take the pup to!!
