What’s Your Healthy Heart Exercise?
**Disclosure: This is a post written by me on behalf of United HealthCare. All thoughts and opinions, as always, are my own.
It’s that time of the month again! No, not that time. It’s time for another photo challenge from Source4Women!
If you’re unfamiliar with Source 4Women, it’s a community created by United Healthcare that provides healthy living information on things like nutrition exercise, health screenings and more for women. Every month they do a photo contest to encourage you to live a healthy and active lifestyle. In honor of February being Healthy Heart month, this month’s dare is all about doing heart healthy exercise. This is the perfect follow-up to last month’s challenge being about healthy resolutions.
The photo I decided to upload this month is a picture of me, Baby Awesome, and Kona on a walk several weeks after Baby Awesome was born. The only exercise I was able to do for the first 6 weeks after her birth was walking. And I couldn’t even walk all that far. So walking and carrying Baby Awesome in my Ergo360 baby carrier was my way to stay heart healthy. Plus carrying her in the baby carrier is a great core and strength workout, right? This is the photo I decided to upload for this month:
I think walking is a great way to keep your heart healthy and keep yourself active when you might be injured or easing yourself back into a workout routin. Once you can walk several miles and feel good you know you are on your way back to getting into shape I just went to the doctor this week and am now cleared to workout and cannot wait to get back and start surfing, running, and doing some higher intensity workouts again. But I know I need to ease into it and start slow. More on that to come.
Here are some more fun photos from the gallery that I liked this month:
The Giveaway – Win A Fitbit Charge!
And now it’s time for the fun part of this month’s challenge – The Giveaway!
Every month there is a prize on the We Dare You site valued at $400. In addition to this, you have the opportunity to win an additional prize by entering through Fit & Awesome. This month we’ve decided to give away another Fitbit Charge! Why? Because it was so popular last month that people actually emailed to see if they won and were sad when we told them a winner had already been chosen (congrats to Jeff L. by the way). Not only that, but the Charge is still a pretty new device that I haven’t even been able to try out yet so we think it’d be fun to give this away to one lucky winner.
Here’s How to Enter:
1) Go to http://www.wedareyoutoshare.com/share
2) Click on “Enter”
3) This will launch a popup that allows you to upload your photo. Make sure to use the promo code “FitandAwesome” when uploading.
**Note: you must enter this promo code to be eligible to win the Fitbit Charge so don’t forget!**
My heart healthy activity pretty much solely consists of chasing after and playing sports with my five year old. He keeps me moving!
I’m sure he does! I can’t wait until Baby Awesome is old enough to chase around.
I used a picture from my workout a couple of days ago. #BeastMode doing rows during the Body Beast Bulk: Back workout
Cassi, you are doing awesome! Love following your journey.
I am actually entering for my hubby. In the last 6 months he has quick smoking, ran (2) 5K and lost 25 LBS. He really wants a FitBit. I am SO proud of the example he is setting for us all!
That’s amazing. Congrats to your husband! How sweet of you to enter this giveaway for him. Best of luck to you both! -Lindsay
I am so proud of him! He is a great example for my boys (and me!)
My heart healthy activity is going to the gym 3-4 times a week, I go with my sisters cause we all motivate each other even more to work harder. It is fun.
Nicole,
That is so great you have workout buddies. I really think it makes a huge difference because you can all motivate each other and keep each other motivated to reach your goals. Good luck to you!

Carol – I love swimming too! I am doing my first masters swim class since having the baby tomorrow night. I am so excited. How often do you swim?
I have recently started rebounding, which has become my daily heart healthy activity!
Lyndsey – I’ve never heard of rebounding before! What is it? Will have to look it up on Mr. Google.
It’s just a fancy term for jumping on a trampoline. I stumbled on an article one day laying out all the health benefits from it, and I decided I had to try it! It’s been a fun activity that I can do at home, and it has added a lot of small bursts of activity to my daily life. NASA did a study on rebounding in the 80s that made it popular – it’s great for building bone and muscle mass and lymphatic drainage.
Wow, that sounds fun! I’m going to look into this more.
Walking. I am trying to leave the car at home as often as possible.
Nice! Do you live in an area that is walking friendly?
According to my BMI assessment I need to lose 20 lbs! Started walking but I better walk more…
Susannah – A Fitbit would be a great way to help you walk more because you could count your steps! Best of luck to you!
I KNOW, that’s why I entered 🙂
But I’m gonna get out there an move around more whether I win or not.
Just have to do it.
I try to walk at least a half hour a day
I love to run, challenge my mind and body. I’m turning 40 soon and am in better shape than I was in my 20’s. Masters Division – Here I COME!
I love walking outdoors in the summer and when it’s warm. When it’s cold outside I do yoga indoors. 🙂
walking and playing with my son
Cutting back on salt, drinking more water are the immediate goals!
I’m getting married in t-minus four months, and am determined to look and feel my best–both for the big day and the honeymoon directly following! I joined a gym, signed up for a wonderful (but hard!) personal trainer, and changed my lifestyle habits (i.e. cutting out artificial sugars, alcohol, etc.) Now if I only had a nifty little FitBit to help track my progress…. hehe 😉
I walk as often as I can to keep my heart healthy.
I love to run outdoors! Makes me feel like I’m actually working.
I love the hip hop Zumba class I go to
i do dance workouts, Zumba and barre workouts.
