We’re almost halfway through August and that means it’s time for another month of challenges from the “We Dare You To Share” community from Source4Women. This is a website created by United Healthcare that provides healthy living information on things like nutrition exercise, health screenings and more for women. Every month they do a photo contest to encourage you to live a healthy and active lifestyle. This month’s photo challenge was to upload a photo of how you fill up on whole grains. I must admit that I’m not much of a whole grains girl myself because a lot of grains naturally contain gluten, but there are some gluten-free whole grains that I do enjoy every now and again. Here are a list of some gluten-free whole grains:
- Rice
- Quinoa
- Corn
- Buckwheat
- Amaranth
- Millet
- Oats (naturally gluten-free but often are cross contaminated so best to buy a gluten-free version)
So, what is my favorite gluten-free whole grain? Definitely quinoa. I enjoy quinoa in my salads and I’ve even made quinoa muffins before. The image I uploaded to this month’s photo challenge was a picture of the Bombay Bowl I had at Veggie Grill. It had steamed veggies, almonds, quinoa, and curry sauce and it was delicious.
