Earlier this week I mentioned that May is National Fitness Month. Did you know that May is also Bike Month? As part of Bike Month, I attended an afternoon bike ride yesterday with goodnessknows snack squares and PUBLIC Bikes in Santa Monica.

The ride was led by celebrity Whitney Eve Port. I love biking, but haven’t been doing it much lately. I used to bike a lot when I was training for triathlons and I really need to get back on the bike since I am doing the Redondo Beach Triathlon in June.  Coming out to the bike ride yesterday was a great first step! The event was BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike) so I rented a bike from the local Santa Monica Bike Center and pedaled on over to the infamous Santa Monica Pier where I met up with everyone for the ride.

My friend Christine is a Santa Monica local and she joined us for the ride as well. I snapped this shot of us riding along the boardwalk in our bike group.

We pedaled down the boardwalk and along Main Street in Santa Monica where we ended up at the new PUBLIC Bikes shop that opened this past March. They had the most amazing spread of food set out for us:

When we arrived at the bike shop we were told they were having a contest. If you posted a photo from the evening’s event using the hashtag #TryALittleGoodness, one lucky winner would receive a brand new PUBLIC Bike to take home. The bikes in this shop were so cool. I had some serious bike envy going on.

We snacked on some goodnessknows snack squares (my favorite was the apple, almond & peanut, dark chocolate) and chatted with some fellow bloggers such as Deanna from The Live Fit Girls and Rachel from Rachel Roams. I loved how the goodnessknows snack squares were divided into perfectly portioned squares.

Perfectly sized for snacking and good conversation.

At the end of the night they announced the winner of the PUBLIC Bike. It was ME! I was so shocked and excited! All night I kept thinking about how amazing it would be to win a bike. As my friend Xenia says, “Put it in the universe.” Well, I put it in the universe that I wanted this bike and I won it. I am so stoked! I recently rented office space near my house so I’m thinking about starting to bike to my office in it. Or maybe getting a baby seat for it and taking Baby Awesome for rides along the bike path. Summer is coming and this is perfect timing to get out on a bike and spend some more times outdoors.

Thank you to the folks at goodnessknows snack squares for hosting such a fun event. I can’t wait to keep you all posted on the adventures of my new bike here on Fit & Awesome.

What about you? Do you bike? What kind of bike do you have? What do you think I should do with my new sweet bike? Post in the comments and let me know!

I love to bike. But unfortunately our season here in the Midwest is kind of short. Your pix of Santa Monica makes me want to move there…

What an amazing prize to win!! I’m a pretty lucky person when it comes to giveaways and I really think it’s like you said – just putting it out there into the universe 🙂 I’m currently cycling and training for a 36 mile ride as part of the Farm to Fork Fondo.

Looks great!!! I love to bike and only have a tri bike right now. I have an old road bike that someone was borrowing, so I need to get that back for casual riding. Enjoy!!!

My biking consists of riding around the campgrounds but I still enjoy it. What a neat bide ride and a beautiful place. Very cool you got to participate in this.!
