Getting Wrapped Up with ACE Bandages

Ace Bandage with new clipAs athletes, at one point or another we are faced with an injury. Some may only last for days. Others much longer. One common injury I’ve faced more often than I’d like in recent years has been ankle injuries. Playing coed soccer will do that to you. It’s so easy to go after a ball, fall, and tweak your ankle. Quite frankly, it sucks.

Now, I haven’t tweaked my ankle recently (thank goodness) but when I do, I usually follow the RICE healing method – REST, ICE, COMPRESSION, ELEVATION. One way I help with compression when I am injured is by wrapping my ankle in an ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage. I keep them in my sock drawer so they are easily accessible. But I’ve always had a big grip with them: their clips.

You all probably know what I’m talking about. These butterfly clips that look like this:

I can’t stand these things. I always lose them and would just end up tucking the end of the bandage into the rest of the wrap to avoid using the clip at all. I guess I’m not alone in my frustration around this clip because ACE™ Brand has introduced a new ACE Brand Elastic Bandage with ACE Brand Clip.

Because I’ve had previous experience dealing with these P. in the A clips, I was thrilled when ACE™ Brand contacted me about trying out this new product. Now, I don’t have any injuries right now but for the purposes of this review I wore the bandage around for one full day and one workout to see how it performed and how I liked it.

The Review

I went ahead and wrapped my ankle like I normally do when I have an injury. When it came time to fastening the new clip, I found it to be pretty intuitive and easy to use. I was a bit confused at first because I thought I broke the clip. But then I realized it sticks on velcro and you can easily take it off to get the tightness around your ankle that you want. Nice!

I wore the bandage with flip flops all day. I didn’t really notice it at all and have to say that the black color is nice. No one noticed the bandage or asked me what is wrong with my foot. All ACE  Bandages I have are the traditional tan color. I felt good all day and the ACE™ Brand Clip stayed nicely in place on the top of my foot.

After being out and about on my feet all day, I came home and decided to do a mini home workout. I haven’t been feeling great lately and have been taking it relatively easy from my normal crazy workout routine but I just bought some 10 lb dumbbells and used them for a couple sets of some squats and thrusters. If you’re familiar with these type of workouts you know that thrusters work your whole body and my ankle felt stable and secure in the ACE™ Brand Elastic Bandage.

Overall

I am so happy that ACE™ Brand changed its clip and that I now have a new version of the product. I am secretly hoping I don’t have to wear it because I don’t want an injury, but if I do – I have a new one in my sock drawer that I will gladly use!
