8 Fitness Activities to Try in 2021

By Kathleen Bufete Leave a Comment

2020 was a weird year for fitness for everyone. Gyms were closed, so if you wanted to work out, you had to do it at home, which motivating yourself to do can be difficult. And with the stresses of everything else going on in the world, it was especially difficult to get up in the morning and do an at-home workout.

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to exercise more, there are plenty of ways to switch up your routine. We have been working out mostly at home for months now, so chances are you are getting bored of doing the same few workouts over and over again.

But the amount of ways to exercise is endless, even if you have a busy schedule and can’t seem to squeeze in the time. If fitness is one of your priorities in the new year, here are 8 fitness activities to try in 2021:

1. Tennis
Tennis is actually a great workout and a fun way to switch up your fitness routine. All you need is a tennis racket and a friend (who you will be socially distant from!) to play. Find a tennis court near you and get your game on. You will not believe just how many calories you can burn playing tennis.

2. Pickleball

Think tennis, badminton, and table tennis all together in one game. Pickleball is a fairly new game that definitely is a workout in itself. It requires four players, rackets, and a tennis court. It is a super fun and fast-paced game that will also leave you exhausted and sweating after.

3. Running

Running is a classic workout that is great because you can do it literally anywhere. Running is a great exercise and you can go completely at your own pace. To really improve your running skills, invest in running gear, such as high-quality socks and sneakers, that will help to improve your speed and endurance.

4. Pilates
Pilates is a super fun and different workout to try out. If you do not want to go to an actual Pilates studio, just bring the studio to you with YouTube videos! You do not really need any additional equipment for Pilates, but if you want to make it more challenging, wear weighted bangles around your ankles/wrists to add resistance.

5. Hiking

Hiking is great exercise and it  is just all around enjoyable to do. You can easily socially distance yourself on a hike if you go with friends and still enjoy your time together. Pack some snacks and water and make a day out of it!

6. Water sports
If you live near the water, try doing water sports! Try surfing, paddle boarding, swimming, you name it! Water sports are not only fun, they are also an incredible workout. You can do them with friends or by yourself, but it’s the type of exercise you will actually want to do every day.

7. Yoga

There are so many different types of yoga out there—vinyasa yoga, hot yoga, power yoga, just to name a few. While you might think that yoga is an easy exercise, that is definitely not the case. Plus, you can also easily do yoga from the comfort of your home if you do not want to go to a studio. All you need is a good yoga mat and a YouTube video to follow along!

8. Zumba

Doing Zumba, or just dancing in general, is such a fun way to exercise. You can’t imagine just how much you will sweat from doing a dance routine. Turn on your favorite music or follow a Zumba YouTube video and see just how good of a workout it is.

2021 is going to be full of exciting workouts we actually look forward to doing. No more dreading working out in the morning—with these 8 fitness activities, you will wake up every morning excited to get your sweat on.
