12 Days of Fitness: Day 6 – Do a Holiday Event
The 12 Days of Fitness is back and today’s tip is be festive and get active by participating in an active holiday event. There are plenty of 5k and 10k runs, walks, and strolls you can participate in to get your blood pumping this holiday season.
Last weekend my husband and I participated in the Santa Monica Christmas Run. It’s a fun event that’s been going on for the past 35 years. People dress up in fun outfits and they even have a costume contest. It’s a blast. Plus they give out a great race tech tee which is always a big plus in my book.
We dressed up for the first time this year and I wore candy cane socks, a running skirt, and a santa hat. It was so much fun. The santa hat was uncomfortable within the first 2 minutes of the run so I took it off. But it was still a good time. I haven’t really run a race since I did the LA Marathon last year and became gluten-free so it was fun to get out there and run a race again – even if we were just running for fun (which is always what running should be about anyway!)
If you don’t know how to find a local holiday event in your area, Active.com is a great resource to find races, events, training group in your area. They pretty much have everything for every type of activity. I’m sure most of you are aware of them anyway so no need to elaborate. But to make it super easy for you to find what you’re looking for, I’ve put this nifty Active.com search widget below so you can easily search to the events you’re looking for without even having to leave this awesome page. The default zip code is 90266 (my zip) but you can change it for wherever you’re located. If you are located in So Cal, there is a New Year’s Day Commitment Run that looks pretty cool I hope this helps you and you sign up for a race either this holiday season or in 2013 as you begin to build out your race calendar. I am currently in the process of doing the same!
I did the turkey trot in burbank this year and people were dressed up – so cute. If i do it next year, I’m totally going to dress up as a turkey. I will also gobble a lot while running. You look so cute!
