Beach Essentials for Kids

By Lindsay Leave a Comment

As a family of four, we spend a lot of time outdoors. One of our favorite weekend activities is spending a day at the beach. We love to play in the sand and the girls are really starting to enjoy boogie boarding. Today, I’m sharing my favorite beach essentials for kids for a day in the sun filled with plenty of fun. Whether you are planning a vacation or just a fun day out at the beach, there are items in here we love and think you will enjoy too.

Beach Toys

The best part of playing in the water is you really don’t need much to have a good time. For sand toys, I am a huge fan of Green Toys. They provide 100% recycled plastic toys that are designed to stand the test of time. The girls love this Sand Play Set that we’ve had since they were little and we have plenty more at home. Another favorite is this set of shovels, perfect size for burying your toes (or dad’s!) in the sand.

If you haven’t heard of Surfer Dudes, you need to check them out. The girls each got one in their Easter baskets this year and it’s been a hit! Surfer Dude is a little boomerang surf board toy that you can toss into the waves and he surfs right back to you. No batteries required and endless entertainment!

Beach Gear

I just recently discovered SandCloud. I love a purpose-driven brand and SandCloud’s mission is to save marine life. They have reinvented the beach towel and with every purchase, 10% of proceeds go towards an environmental charity. Their designs caught my eye, but the business mission caught my heart. Check out their 100% Turkish Organic Cotton towels and grab one for yourself!

This Pacific Breeze tent is another must have for us. While we love being on the beach, it’s nice to have an occasional break from the sun. The Pacific Breeze tent is lightweight, water resistant and UPF 50+ sun protection. The girls love taking their snack breaks in this tent. It’s also a great spot for younger kiddos to take a nap.

Another favorite (not just for the beach but camping as well) are the Melissa & Doug Butterfly folding chairs. They are easy to open and close and lightweight so they can carry themselves. We bring them to soccer games, too.

Beach Snacks

As a mom, isn’t this the one word we hear all day long? Our kids are constantly growing, which means lots of snacking! The best way to carry all of those snacks is in this amazing Aloha Zipper Tote. It’s the perfect beach side (or poolside) tote and protects from splashes and spills.

We are big fans of the PlanetBox lunch box, so these little compartment containers are great for granola, fruits and other small snacks. You can also check out my past blog posts of Top Sustainable Products for Moms and Kids. Another great beach snack is the Skout Organic protein bars. Easy to grab and go and has nutritious and whole food ingredients.

Sunscreen and Wetsuits

We always try to maintain good sun safety, but as you know, it isn’t easy applying sunscreen on our squirming kids. I love the Project Sunscreen mineral roll on sunscreen because it makes applying sunscreen fun. It’s so easy for the girls to take control and apply on their face. We are also huge fans of SunBum. The Original SPF 50 is always in our beach bag and so easy to spray on. Their line of sunscreen smells so good and we’ve had great luck with staying protected in the sun. We always bring at least one roll-on and one spray with us.

Another favorite beach essential is the wetsuit. My kids can slip into this O’Neill short sleeve wetsuit and have endless amounts of fun. I love that it’s easy to zip up and there’s no fuss with wardrobe malfunctions. We have full suits too, which I also recommend if you spend a lot of time in the beach or live somewhere where it’s a bit colder.

We love spending our free time at the beach. Time outdoors is good for everyone. Hopefully you can grab a few more beach essentials for your kids and your next day in the sun!
