Awesome Fridays: Leo Carrillo Camping
Edition

20130816-172829.jpg

Happy Awesome Friday, everyone! Wow, what a whirlwind of a week its been. Last week our new golden retriever puppy Kona joined our family at 7 weeks old. This week we had a family camping trip planned at Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu. My husband Marion’s family has been camping there every summer for over 45 years. I used to surf at Leo Carrillo when I was a teenager so we both think it’s pretty amazing that we have such a special place in common. We even took our engagement photos there! So cool.

Kona doesn’t have all her shots yet so she couldn’t join us camping. My parents graciously volunteered to watch her while we were gone. You see, we weren’t supposed to get Kona until AFTER our camping trip but there was a bit of puppy drama and she ended up coming to us early. In hindsight we are so glad she came when she did because otherwise we wouldn’t even have her yet! We had a great time camping this week. The surf was flat which was a bummer but luckily we had 3 stand up paddle boards amongst our group including “Pinky,” my pink Surf Diva SUP. I took my 5 year old niece out paddle boarding for her first time ever and she loved it! She had such a great time and even wanted to catch a wave! Maybe next year.

We also had a great time introducing our 8 month old niece to Leo:

My parents don’t live too far away from where we were camping so one night they came down for dinner with Bailey and Kona. We were very careful with Kona not to let her on the ground because she doesn’t have all her shots yet. She stayed in the car and was held by the kids and then when it was time to eat dinner we put her in her crate in the van and left the back door open so she could see us. She slept the whole time which was so awesome! Here’s some pics we snapped with Kona before she had to go back home:

In other news, I came home to a pile full of mail which included some product samples. Expect August product review month to be back in
full swing next week. I will probably carry it out into next month since there’s been such a lag this month. Be on the look out for
some more great reviews. Have a great weekend, everyone! Be fit. Be awesome. And get outdoors and enjoy the final weeks of summer!

What about you? Have you ever been camping? Or stand up paddle boarding? Does your family have an annual tradition? Post in the comments and let me know.

I love camping! We have been camping ever since I was a little kid! Although, being from Wisconsin and now land-locked in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, I have never had to experience of camping on a beach-that looks fun! It’s also funny you mention SUP. I was just telling my husband today that I really want to try it and rent one this weekend to take up to a reservoir…so we’ll see!!
