Happy Awesome Friday, everyone! I hope you all had a great week. I missed last week’s Awesome Friday post which was one of the first times I’ve done that. Sorry about that. I hope you didn’t miss me too much! This week I’ve been pretty busy balancing work, working out, and eating right all while doing the whole30 and the Lorna Jane Move Nourish Believe Challenge. What can I say, I like to keep myself busy.
In addition to the two challenges I mentioned above, Spectrum Club is having a “go for the gold” challenge in honor of the Olympics where you workout 15 times in 20 days. I’ve already been there 3 times this week so I’d say I’m in good shape. If you complete the challenge you get a free t-shirt. Oh, the things I will do for a free shirt.
This week I’ve been cooking up a storm in the kitchen making all sorts of yummy whole30 compliant food. Some of my favorites this week are Sweet Potato Chips and Homemade Almond Milk. I really enjoyed this last batch of almond milk I made. I put a splash of coconut milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg in it and it tasted fantastic!
Our beloved Magic Bullet finally pooped out this week after five years of service. We have already replaced her with a new Magic Bullet. I need it for my morning smoothies and all my other kitchen concoctions!
Kona is going through her rambunctious “teenager” phase and wanting to chew, bite, and destroy everything in sight. Yesterday she ate a roll of toilet paper. She has also suddenly decided that the remote control tastes good and carries it in her mouth around the house. We’ve got our hands full with that one! But we love her so much. I mean, how can you not love her face!
I’ve been working out a lot lately (as you might have seen if you follow me on instagram). I’ve been swimming, spinning, surfing, hiking, and played soccer all in the last week. And along with that has come soreness. A lot of soreness. I’ve been taking fish oil supplements but I’m still mega sore. I’ve gained weight, too. 5 pounds in the last 10 days to be exact. Eeek! Now, I know you’re not supposed to weigh yourself on the Whole30. Bad Lindsay, bad! I admit it’s wrong because it’s really messing me up. My eating is perfect. Shouldn’t my weight be DOWN not up the highest it’s been in a year? I asked some fellow fitness bloggers Lisa from The Skinny on Health, Alexandra from Fun & Fit, Teresa from Eat, Drink, and Be Skinny and Melissa from The ValentineRD. They all have told me it’s basically impossible to gain that much fat or muscle in such a short period of time and it must be water retention from muscle inflammation. I am really sore right now so I’m hoping that’s the culprit. I have been advised to put away the scale which I will probably end up doing, but I do have a doctor’s appointment in two weeks so I’ll know more then. I will keep you all posted on how everything goes. I know the journey to being healthy, fit and awesome is not always easy and that is why I always want to be transparent with you all on what’s going on with me.
